- Received an athletic scholarship to play Division I Baseball for Southeast Missouri State University
- Bachelor of Science in Sport Management with an emphasis in Business and Marketing
- Member of the Student Athlete Mentors Program
- Recognition as a Scholar Athlete, as well as frequent appearances on the Dean’s List
- In 1998,  was a member of the first Division I Baseball team in SEMO’s history to represent the university in a regional tournament
- In 1998 and 2000, was a member of the  Ohio Valley Conference All-Tournament Team
- Set an Ohio Valley Conference Tournament record in 2000 with 3 home runs in a single game
- Was a member of the all-time homerun team in SEMO’s baseball history
- Was the President of Kangaroo Court for the Indians

Professional
- Signed with the Chillicothe Paints of the Frontier League in 2000
- Traded to the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League in 2003
- 2003 season, Phil and the Grizzlies won their first ever Frontier League Championship under manager Danny Cox
- Phil led all playoff participants with a .500 batting average and also added a homerun and three RBI
- In 2004, set career highs in homeruns (23), RBI (66), doubles (20), hits (112), at-bats (357), runs scored (71), was voted as the Grizzlies team MVP, and the runner-up MVP for the Frontier League
- Selected to the Frontier League All-Star Game in 2004 where Phil won the Homerun Derby
- 2-time Frontier League All-Star (2004-2005)
- 5th all-time in homeruns for the Frontier League (54)
- Has his own bobblehead
