PHIL WARREN

Phil was born and raised in St. Louis and currently serves as the Manager of the Gateway Grizzlies Professional Baseball Teams as well as Co-Owner of Grizzlies Baseball Academy. Phil is currently the longest tenured Gateway Grizzlies Manager, entering his 11th year as of 2017. In 2010, Warren passed former manager Danny Cox to become the franchise’s all-time leader in managerial wins. Phil’s total of ? is good for ? all-time in Frontier League history as of 2017. The former Frontier League All-Star spent the 2006 season as the Grizzlies Director of Player Personnel and was named as the fourth manager in franchise history November 3, 2006. Prior to the 2006 season, the St. Louis native spent three seasons on the playing field for the Grizzlies and parts of six seasons total in the Frontier League. Phil retired following the 2005 season, holding many of the Grizzlies career offensive records including most games, most hits, most home runs and most RBIs. Phil held 11 total Grizzlies career offensive records when he retired as a player. Prior to his Frontier League career, the St. Louis native played baseball at Southeast Missouri State University. Phil played high school baseball and soccer at St. John Vianney High School. Phil continues to work closely with youth baseball players and their families in the Metro East and the St. Louis area and is committed through RETRO Baseball and Grizzlies Baseball Academy to help ensure a successful brand of youth baseball. He will direct Grizzlies Summer camps at GCS Ballpark and local league facilities. Phil is a Co-Owner of P&D Baseball LLC. The company owns and operates the Grizzlies Baseball Academy. Phil, his wife Sarah, and their three Labrador Retrievers, Drake, Bella, & Dixie reside in Freeburg, Illinois.

Darin (DK) is a 1996 graduate of East Prairie High School. DK earned a Division I scholarship to play baseball at Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) for four years, ultimately graduating with a Sports Management and Marketing Degree in 2002. DK earned several awards as a player at SEMO, including the Honorable Mention All Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Award in 1998, 1st Team All Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Award in 2000, and the All OVC Tournament Team Award in 2000. DK was also a member of the 1998 team at SEMO that won the OVC Tournament and advanced to the NCAA D1 Baseball Regional Tournament. In 1998, DK played summer baseball in the Northeast Collegiate Baseball League where he earned the team MVP award. DK is still in the top 10 ranks for home runs and RBI in SEMO’s record book. After college, DK went on to play 6 years of professional baseball, spending time in the Frontier League and the Northern League. Professionally, DK is a 2-time MVP, 2-time Frontier League All Star, and ranks in the top 10 in home runs in the Frontier League record book. Since retiring from playing, DK has served as a volunteer hitting coach for the Gateway Grizzlies Professional Baseball Team. DK is also Co-Owner of Grizzlies Baseball Academy with current Gateway Grizzlies Manager, Phil Warren. DK specializes in hitting and serves the Metro-East area’s youth baseball movement by performing individual hitting lessons at Grizzlies Baseball Academy. DK is also an asset to parents as they navigate through their son’s baseball goals. DK is newly married and currently resides in Edwardsville, Illinois.

MIKE BREYMAN

Mike was born in Tiffin, Ohio. Mike graduated from Seneca East High School in Attica, Ohio in 2000, where he played baseball and basketball. In 2000, Mike received the Division 3 Ohio Player of the Year Award for baseball and was awarded the Rawlings 1st team All American Award. Mike currently still holds the Ohio single season batting average record of .810. After graduating high school, Mike received an athletic scholarship to play baseball at Rend Lake College in Ina, Illinois. At Rend Lake College, Mike earned the Division 1 Junior College All American Award in 2002 as well as graduating with an Associate of Arts Degree. From there, Mike received a baseball scholarship from the University of Kentucky for the 2003 and 2004 seasons. During his 2-year career at the University of Kentucky, Mike compiled a .324 batting average, 24 homeruns and 97RBI. Upon graduating from the University of Kentucky, Mike was signed by the Gateway Grizzlies Professional Baseball Club in June of 2004. Mike played professionally for the Grizzlies for 5 years. As a member of the Gateway Grizzlies, Mike was a 2-time Frontier League All-Star, was named to the post season All Frontier League Team, holds the all-time RBI (315) and Hits record (459) for the Frontier League, and is second all-time in the Frontier League in home runs (83). Mike was inducted into the Frontier League Hall of Fame in 2015. Mike’s coaching career began in 2005, where he led the varsity baseball team at Buckeye Central High School in Ohio (20-5 record) to the regional finals. In the fall of 2008, Mike coached for the Southern Illinois Swing. Mike’s professional coaching experience includes serving as the hitting coach for the Gateway Grizzlies, Manager of the Joliet Slammers in the Frontier League, and the hitting coach for the River City Rascals. Currently, Mike serves as a lead hitting instructor at Grizzlies Baseball Academy and a volunteer hitting coach for the Gateway Grizzlies. Mike enjoys helping youth baseball players achieve their goals and chase their baseball dreams. Mike resides in Belleville, Illinois.

 
 

JUSTIN LILLY

Justin Lilly is an accomplished professional pitcher and pitching instructor. Originally from Raleigh, NC, Justin played two years of college baseball at Louisburg College in NC before receiving a scholarship to Campbell University. After a successful collegiate playing career, the Gateway Grizzlies signed Justin in 2008. After playing for the Grizzlies and Windy City Thunderbolts, Justin retired and began his coaching career in 2010 by joining the Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) baseball coaching staff. From there, Justin spent one year as the Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for Union College. Currently, Justin resides in Columbia, Illinois and is a Volunteer Firefighter.
